Useful Tricks

Use the great location of the hotel as a “springboard” to explore the gorgeous German-influenced towns around Lago Llanquihue. Take a local bus or drive short (30 minutes) to the beautiful town of Puerto Varas, known for its pretty architecture and amazing views of Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. Continue from here, along the lake shore to another picturesque town, Frutillar, famous for its Teatro del Lago.

To make complete use of the hotel's amenities, allow some time to unwind by taking a dip in the indoor heated swimming pool and sauna. Particularly on a rainy Patagonian day-which can happen-these facilities offer a wonderful warm retreat! Most times, big windows from the pool area look out into the bay so one can watch dramatic scenery even while swimming indoors. This is an aspect that brings real comfort added value to your stay.

To get an original flavor of the renowned seafood from this region, pass through the main handicraft market and go straight to the section of ‘cocinerías’ small eateries just beside the fish market. This is where food comes hot on huge plates: salmon or mussels (‘choritos’) or sea urchin (‘erizo’), simply cooked, at very reasonable prices. True local eating experience.

My last piece of advice is about the weather. Puerto Montt’s reputation for changeable, mostly wet, rainy days pack layers always even that should not discourage you from visiting. Some dramatic sky and misty view over the sound and volcanoes are extremely beautiful and striking-in a very different type of Patagonian allure. Sitting in a hotel lobby with a hot drink watching the weather come in can be quite a snug experience!
