Hotel Diego de Almagro has an excellent location at Puerto Montt’s Costanera, from where the waterfront and central parts of the city are easily accessible on foot. Practically outside its door is a beautiful walkway promenade along the coast, ideal for running or walking with constant views across the bay toward snow-capped volcanoes in the distance, over Reloncaví Sound. It is about a 10-15 minute pleasant walk along this promenade to reach Plaza de Armas-the main square heart of the city-where one can admire its distinctive wood-shingled Cathedral and experience some local atmosphere.

The city’s prime tourist spot, the Angelmó fish and handicraft market is also within walking distance- westwards along the waterfront for about twenty to twenty-five minutes. This busy market should not be missed with its unbelievable display of fresh seafood straight from the boats and many small eating places or ‘cocinerías’ offering delicious local food such as ‘curanto’ besides stalls with traditional woolen goods and handicrafts. The area provides an excellent view of intense port activity in the city.

The location is perfect for shopping and other practical reasons. One of the city’s primary malls, Mall Paseo Costanera, is just within a ten-minute walk from the hotel. Inside are major department stores, a supermarket, cinema, and food court. In about fifteen minutes on foot from the hotel, one can reach the main commercial streets of downtown that contain banks, pharmacies, and several different stores. All this accessibility by walking route which also happens to be quite aesthetically pleasing combines perfectly with urban convenience.
